The GSMA's agenda for responsible growth

The GSMA's Board, comprising senior representatives from the world's nine largest mobile operators, together with their peers from 13 other thought leading mobile operators, is committed to an effective and proactive public policy agenda. It believes that the promotion of as open and competitive an environment as possible is fundamental to fulfilling the potential of mobility for the benefit of all.

Public Policy Committee
To represent the public policy views of the operator community more efficiently, the GSM Association has established a dedicated Public Policy Committee to work with governments and regulators around the world. The role of this group is to proactively lead the policy debate, representing the mobile industry to governments and regulators, and deliver a regulatory environment that maximises the opportunities for members and the benefits for users.

Advisory Groups
The agenda of the Public Policy Committee is broad and diverse. It has therefore created two Advisory Groups, receiving dedicated and high-level resources from a number of experts, to address specific issues. Firstly, the Spectrum Management Group is responsible for the allocation and management of spectrum; secondly, the Regulatory Advisory Group is addressing issues such as the control of inappropriate content over mobile systems, general regulatory matters and health-related issues.

A Pivotal Role
The growth of the mobile industry and its continued development of new, content-rich services is creating fresh public policy challenges and making long-term policy planning ever more complicated. The GSMA is a unique organisation, capable of providing expert knowledge and representing the needs and views of the global mobile operator community. As such, the GSM Association plays a pivotal role in the development of public policy, for the benefit of the mobile industry and its large, rapidly growing customer base.

Tom Phillips

"The growth of the mobile industry and its continued development of new, content-rich services is creating fresh public policy challenges and making long-term policy planning ever more complicated.
