Ensuring that the interests of the global mobile community are effectively represented in the public policy debate
Public Policy
The GSMA has a pivotal role to play in the development of public policy relating to the mobile industry and its customers. Our Public Policy team proactively leads the policy debate, representing the mobile industry to governments and regulators, and delivering a regulatory environment that maximises development opportunities for mobile operators and long-term benefit for mobile users.

Government Programme
Our Government Programme of events provides a framework for regular interactive dialogue and relationship building between ministers, regulators and industry in both developed and developing countries.
Regulatory Affairs
As the mobile industry continues to grow, policy development challenges arise, both nationally and internationally. These challenges frequently highlight the need to develop a better understanding among governments of the role and operating model of private enterprise in a modern, globalised society. Through programmes of engagement with governments, and direct market interventions, we help to shape the global regulatory agenda.
Spectrum
Effective management of spectrum across all technologies and in every region of the world is vital to the long-term growth of the mobile industry. We work closely with governments and regulators on spectrum issues and advocate allocation of new spectrum bands to enable the mobile industry to continue to bring new and innovative services to market.
Mobile and Health
We recognise that there is public concern about possible health risks from the use of mobile phones and the siting of antennas. The GSMA opinion based on expert scientific reviews is that there are no established health risks from the radio signals used by mobile phones and network antennas. We support comprehensive research involving independent experts to ensure the availability of up-to-date information.
Protecting Consumers
The unprecedented growth of the mobile industry has inevitably had some negative consequences, leading to potential problems for consumers, such as mobile Spam, handset theft and exposure to illegal content on the Internet. Mobile operators recognise that they have an ongoing responsibility to ensure that their customers are protected from such threats, and the GSMA is very active in supporting operators’ goals of improving transparency, openness and accountability.
