Dr Young-Chu Cho of KTF Korea elected to GSMA Board

12th April 2006 - London - The President & CEO of South Korean mobile operator KTF, Dr Young-Chu Cho has been elected to the board of the GSM Association, the global trade association for the mobile industry that represents more than 690 mobile operators from 213 countries.

"We are delighted to welcome Dr Cho and KTF to the GSMA's Board," said GSM Association Chairman Craig Ehrlich. "Dr Cho's experience in the development and deployment of next generation mobile technologies and services in the highly advanced Korean market will be a great asset to the board in the development of industry strategy on a global scale."

The GSM Association Board consists of twelve of the largest operator groups in the world and nine other operator members that are nominated to reflect the needs of smaller, independent operators and to ensure global representation. KTF has been elected to the board seat made vacant by the recent acquisition of European operator group O2, by Telefonica of Spain.

"We warmly welcome Dr Cho to the board, his leadership of KTF and depth of expertise in a fast paced technology and market environment will be a tremendous complement to the board," said Rob Conway, GSM Association CEO & Board Member.

Major mobile operators and multinational groups such as Cingular Wireless of the U.S., China Mobile and China Unicom of China, NTT DoCoMo of Japan, Orange Group, Telefonica, T-Mobile International, and Vodafone Group, among others are members of the GSMA's Board.

Dr Cho, who has more than 25 years experience in the Korean telecommunications industry, said "It is a great honour and privilege to be elected as a GSMA Board Member, where I hope to make an important contribution to the industry's continued evolution and global growth."

Under Dr Cho's leadership, KTF has achieved more than 12 million subscribers and is pro-actively expanding and upgrading its 3GSM (W-CDMA) network with HSDPA (a high speed broadband mobile technology) for national coverage. Dr Cho will officially join the Board during its next meeting in New Delhi, India in June 2006. The term is for two years.
