Spinvox Scoops First GSM Association Mobile Innovation Award
15 February 2006
Qstik, OZ complete top three from 150 worldwide entries
15th February 2006 - Barcelona - The winner of the first GSM Association Mobile Innovation Award was announced last night at the industry Awards Gala Evening. UK speech-to-text-company SpinVox won through from 150 entries via three rounds of judging.
This is the launch year of the Mobile Innovation Award, designed to encourage breakthrough technology in the mobile industry by bringing together technology innovators with industry investors and mobile operators. An international panel of judges from the venture capital and global network operator community evaluated the 15 shortlisted companies, who presented to a full house at the Mobile Innovation Forum on Monday 13 February. The three finalists - mobile email company OZ Communications, audio quality technology company Qstik, and SpinVox, presented again at the 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona yesterday.
Presenting the Award, Frank Boulben, Executive Vice-President, Brand and Consumer Marketing, for Mobile Innovation Award sponsor Orange, said "At Orange, we are committed to encouraging innovation and creativity in the mobile industry, so we're delighted to sponsor the very first 3GSM Mobile Innovation Award. We will be inviting SpinVox to Orange Partner Camp in Florida in May, where Orange partners - mobile application developers, games publishers, content providers and systems integrators - get together with us to develop compelling products and services using the Orange network. I also take this opportunity to thank the judges for carrying out this impossible task with courage and fortitude. I know they have chosen well."
Collecting the Award, SpinVox CEO Christina Domecq said: "The mobile industry has recognised how radical combining voice and text can be, for customers and operators alike - particularly when this is achieved with existing services. SpinVox's voicemail-to-text is a simple idea that changes the way in which we communicate. The talking point is our impact on call continuity and how this will change core operator services"
Craig Ehrlich, GSM Association Chairman, said: "The international interest that this new Award has created was overwhelming, with entries submitted from around the world and from all sectors of the industry, reflecting the entire mobile value chain. The quality of the entries was outstanding, and proves that innovation and entrepreneurial spirit remains the catalyst that drives this industry forward."
The Mobile Innovation Award, supported by media partner Red Herring, is part of the established global GSM Association Awards programme, now in its eleventh year.
