Stars converge at the National Palace as Barcelona hosts highlight of the GSM year

14th February 2006 - Barcelona  - The winners of the 2006 GSM Association Awards were announced tonight at a star-studded Gala Evening at Barcelona's National Palace.

This is eleventh year of the Awards, and the first Gala presentation evening to be held in the Spanish city, new home to the 3GSM World Congress. Co-hosted by Ryan Devlin from MTV's Entertainment Tonight show, and Robert Coren of TelecomTV, the evening set the seal on the arrival of Hollywood at the heart of the mobile world. Guest appearances by screen stars Wesley Snipes and Juliette Lewis, and supermodel Caprice, were followed by R & B sensation Craig David playing an exclusive set for the 850 guests.

"This year's Awards reflect the diversity, the vitality and the changing dynamics of our industry as the content and communications worlds converge. We are at the beginning of a new era of multimedia, entertainment, music, gaming and TV, in which GSM plays a starring role. Our congratulations to the winners and our thanks to everyone who participated." said Rob Conway, CEO of the GSM Association.

The 2006 Awards winners were chosen after a tough two-phase judging process conducted by an international panel of independent industry and subject matter experts, drawn from the academic, analyst, media and entertainment communities.

Intel is once again the Platinum Sponsor for the 2006 Awards, with Nokia as sponsor of the Mobile Entertainment category and Qualcomm sponsor of the Handsets and Devices category. Platinum Media Partners include CNBC Europe, Variety Magazine, Fortune and the Wall Street Journal Europe.
