Finland: Health Risk Assessment of Mobile Communications (HERMO)

To increase knowledge on use by children, human proteins, cognition, blood circulation, blood-brain barrier (BBB), EEG, epidemiological errors, dosimetry, cell oxidative stress etc.

Scope

  • Study possible health effects and risks of mobile communication.
  • Investigate RF fields and how they effect on nervous systems and sensory organs.
  • Increase knowledge on possible RF effects on growing nervous tissue (children).
  • Find out possible SAR focus phenomena near human implants.

Status

All of the projects have completed and final reports can be downloaded. Some studies have already been published in the the peer reviewed scientific literature. The final report of the program is available and concludes that no evidence of detrimental health effects were obtained in the studies on cell cultures, laboratory animals, voluntary persons, or theoretical modelling.

Discussions are underway about the scope of a possible successor program that may commence in 2009.
