Rob Conway, CEO GSM Association - Welcome...

"Imagine a world without wires; a world where verbal and visual communication is simple, convenient and reliable"

GSM Association CEO, Rob ConwayThe GSM Association (GSMA) is dedicated to turning that vision into reality by promoting and developing the GSM platform for global mobile communications.

More than 3 billion people - over one third of the people on the planet - now use GSM. GSM is one of the technological success stories of our age, comparable to other wonders of the modern era such as mass air travel, television and the Internet. In fact, far more people have GSM mobile phones than have Internet access.

But it's not just about numbers. GSM ranks alongside other profound technological phenomena because of its power to change our lives.

We are freeing people from the physical constraints posed by their immediate environment, enabling them to communicate easily and quickly on one number, almost anywhere in the world. Now, as the GSM family develops and evolves to offer high-speed data services using GPRS, EDGE & 3GSM, we are driving forward our vision of an unbounded wireless world of communications. For those of us privileged to work in the wireless industry, we can be proud of what we have already achieved.

But there are plenty of opportunities and challenges ahead, ranging from developing exciting multimedia services for existing mobile phone users to bringing basic GSM services, such as voice calls and text messages, to people who have never experienced the benefits of communications.
