Regional Interest Groups and Working Groups
The GSMA's member and professional staff work closely everyday to enable a multi-billion dollar global wireless network business, and to guide the strategic planning for the future. Working Groups of operator and supplier members from around the world oversee the practical aspects of running wireless services today. In addition, specialist interest groups look at the needs of a particular region or the impact of new services or technologies.

Devices Group (DG)
Chair: Stephen
Packer, Vodafone Ltd, UK
The Devices used within GSM /GPRS networks are becoming increasingly complex on both an Application Enabler and Bearer level. The availability of handsets compliant with the relevant standards is a key issue for delivering enhanced services to the End User. Device interoperability is an issue of great importance for Operators, the experience of the past 2 or 3 years has shown that this cannot be left to the Infrastructure and Device Manufacturers to address, the Operators must play a full part to encourage sufficient development and integration testing to be carried out. The Device Interoperability Group's main objective is to reduce interoperability issues wherever these may occur; between the Device and Network, between the SIM and Device or between Devices. The DIG is a group which supports the needs of Full and Associate Members. There are areas of its work that need to be closed to full members only. These areas include the discussion of commercial Device faults, their impact and solution of these faults. To ensure that the DIG can operate in an open and involving way, we have meetings open to both members and associate members with certain sensitive parts of the meeting closed to full members only.
