Executive Management
Committee - Biographies
The
GSMA is the operator-led trade association
representing the global mobile industry. Encompassing
technical, commercial and public policy initiatives,
the GSMA focuses on ensuring wireless services
work globally, thereby enhancing the value
of mobile services to individual users and
national economies while creating new business
opportunities for operators and their supplier
partners.
Constituted in 2003, the Executive Management
Committee's (EMC's) remit is to provide guidance
to the Board on its strategy and vision, and
to drive the GSMA's operational activities
in both technology and the area of products
and services.The EMC comprises 23 Members,
currently including 22 operator representatives
and the GSMA's CTO Alex Sinclair.
The EMC is chaired by Stein Hansen, VP Group
Technology at Telenor, who also has a seat
on the GSMA Board.

Stein Hansen

Stein Hansen is currently
Vice President, Group Technology, in the Telenor
group.
Stein started his career in Telenor R&D,
and had central industry positions from the
early beginning in the development of GSM and
UMTS. Stein has also had a range of operational
top management positions, including Technical
Director of NetCom (Norway), Managing Director
of Telenor Mobilnett (Norway), Mobile Planning & Implementation
Director of VIAG Interkom (Germany) as well
as Chief Operating Officer of DiGi (Malaysia).
Stein has been at the Telenor group-level since
2001.
Stein is one of the pioneers in the field of
GSM and UMTS, and has been in the field since
1984. He was Telenor's representative in the
GSM Permanent Nucleus (France) from 1986-1988.
He was also later the first ETSI chairman in
the early development of UMTS from 1991-1993.
Stein has been involved with the EMC since
April 2004, and was elected Chair of the EMC
in January 2006.
Stein Hansen holds an M.Sc. degree in telecommunications
from the Norwegian Institute of Technology,
University of Trondheim.

Ms Wang Hongyu

Ms Wang Hongyu has been Vice
Director of Data Service Dept. CMCC since August
2001 and has been working in the telecom industry
since 1992 with experience in both marketing
and network operations. Prior to taking up
her current post, Ms Wang was Vice Director
of the Marketing Department CMCC as well as
Vice Director of Network Management Dept. CMCC.
Ms Wang Hongyu has extensive experience in
wireless communications and in management in
mobile data and mobile internet industry. Since
2000, she has organized and developed "Monternet",
the mobile data service application platform
and the special data service business mode
for China Mobile. In addition, Ms Wang Hongyu
is the main organiser and executive of CMCC
GPRS trial commercial launch project as well
as the CMCC Monternet Portal (WAP & WWW)
operation.
Ms Wang Hongyu graduated from Nanjing Institute
of Posts & Telecommunications where she
received a Bachelor degree in telecommunications.
In 1999, Ms Wang Hongyu also graduated from
TsingHua University with a Masters Degree in
Business Administration.

Tom Keathley
Vice President - Technology and Standards

Tom is responsible for defining
the roadmap for Cingular's RF technology and
overseeing the standard efforts for RF, Core
Network, and Services. He had a leadership
role in Cingular's launch of the first commercial
HSDPA networks in 16 markets.
Previously, he was Vice President
- UMTS Enterprise Program Management responsible
for the nationwide launch of UMTS/HSDPA. Tom
has over 20 years of experience in the telecommunications
industry and served in a number of leadership
roles in Cingular, Southwestern Bell Mobile
Systems, Cellular One and Southwestern Bell
Telephone.
He is a graduate of the University
of Missouri - Rolla, where he earned a bachelor's
degree in electrical engineering. He also holds
a Masters Degree in Business Administration
from Southern Illinois University.

Roberto di Pietro

Roberto has been one of the
core executives overseeing the 3 Group's global
handset organisation, including responsibilities
for the technical development, roadmap, procurement,
testing and deployment of H3G S.p.A. in February
2002 in the position of the Handset Technical
Director, and is now the Director and Co-General
Manager of the 3 Group's global handset activities.
Prior to joining 3, Roberto
worked with Telecom Italia and then Wind, where
his responsibilities included network rollout
and network management.
Through these various executive
positions, Roberto has gained invaluable hands-on
experience on both the technical and commercial
issues relating to the handset and network
sides of the telecoms business, as well played
a key role in 3's successful global 3G launch,
including the first 3G handset on the European
market.

Dr. Terry Ahn

Terry Ahn is currently an Executive Vice President of Global Business Office at KTF. He oversees global investment, global business development and cooperation at KTF.
Terry Ahn started his career in telecom industry in 1985 and has experience in both fixed and mobile businesses. During his years at KTF, he has been in charge of KTF mobile data platform & data center design, and the world first CDMA based mobile internet service development and launching. Before joining KTF, he was responsible for several international R & D projects in Korea Telecom such as Korea-U.K. joint development program for KT radio resource planning. He also successfully led Seoul Metro area cellular radio planning project for PCS license bidding. Terry Ahn graduated from Seoul National University where he received a Bachelor's degree in Science Education. He holds a Ph.D. & M.S. in Applied Physics from Korea Advance Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST).

Georg Donaubauer

Georg Donaubauer is Head of Strategy in mobilkom austria AG and Telekom Austria Group. Within mobilkom austria group (operators in Austria, Liechtenstein, Croatia, Slovenia, Bulgaria and Serbia) he is leading the internal Strategic Evaluation Committee, taking the leadership for new innovations within our group on local and regional level, proposing strategies for future developments, innovative projects and initiatives.
He began his professional career in 1996 in the Federation of Austria Industry in the department of Industrial Policy as an expert for telecommunications, energy and media. From 1997 to 1999, he was a member of the Telecom-Control-Commission, the regulator for the Austrian telecommunications market which was established as an independent panel authority. From 1999 to 2000, he was the head of Corporate Finance and Corporate Controlling at the Post and Telecomunications AG, the holding for all postal and telecommunication services in Austria. In May 2000, he became the UMTS project leader for Mobilkom Austria, the dominant GSM operator in Austria. Since April 2001, he is side-line a member of the Electricity-Control-Commission the independent regulator for the energy sector. In 2002 he became Head of Strategy in Mobilkom Austria AG and in 2006 additionally Head of Strategy of Telekom Austria (Group) AG. Georg Donaubauer is a member of the Telecom-Working Group within the Union of Industrial and Employers' Confederations of Europe (UNICE).

Ashraff Paruk

Ashraff Paruk is currently
Head : Strategy & Product Innovation at
MTN South Africa. In this role Ashraff drives
Business Strategy and manages all product development
for MTN SA which is the South African operating
unit within the MTN Group. He was previously
Group CIO for MTN Group.
Before joining MTN, Ashraff
was an associate director in the Accenture
Communications and High Tech (CHT) Operating
group in the Strategic IT Service Line. An
electrical engineer, Ashraff initially spent
two years as a consultant for automated mapping
/ facilities management solutions (AM/FM).
During his eight year tenure
with Accenture, he consulted on telco business
strategies, Customer Relationship Management
(CRM) Business Architecture and Enterprise
Information Technology Enablement. He has extensive
client experience, including start-ups and
big players like MTN, Cell C, Vodacom, Spoornet
and Old Mutual.

Junichi Igarashi

Since 2006, Jun works for the Global Business Department which handles NTT DoCoMo's global expansion strategy and global investments. In addition to being responsible for GSMA activities within NTT DoCoMo, he is in charge of investigating overseas Next Generation mobile services.
Before joining NTT DoCoMo, he was GM in StarHub (Singapore) as a secondee from NTT Communications. He was in charge of fixed & mobile telecom sales and business development towards the Japanese market since 2003. In 2002, he was a GM in NTT Europe (UK) and SM in NTT Communications (Japan), and responsible for suite of SI related sales & implementation and maintenance services.
He has extensive experience in strategy, business building and overseas sales in the whole NTT groups. He has an MBA degree from the University of Michigan and Master's & Bachelor's degree of Engineering from University of Tokyo.

Tim Robertson

Tim Robertson is responsible
for Operator Alliances across the Orange Group.
Before assuming this role in 2003 Tim was VP,
Global Products, Marketing and Brand responsible
for Group product development and marketing,
content and multimedia strategy.
Tim joined Orange UK in 1994
where he was General Manager Regulatory and
subsequently he was a General Manager in Orange
International responsible for new licence acquisition
and development. He was a Board member of Connect
Austria, Orange Switzerland and Orange Belgium.
Prior to Orange Tim was at
Coopers and Lybrand consultancy where he worked
across a range of industries.
Tim hold a BA in Economics
and Economic History from Exeter University
and an MBA from London Business School.

Assaad Abousleiman

Assaad Abousleiman is currently
Orascom Telecom's advisor for International
affairs and is also responsible for driving
and supporting some of Orascom Telecom's strategic
projects. In this capacity he works closely
with Mr. Emad Farid, Group Chief Operating

Before assuming this role Assaad
was CEO of Libertis Telecom, an Orascom Telecom
GSM subsidiary that was divested in December
2005. Assaad joined Orascom Telecom in 2001
as CTO of Libertis Telecom. Prior to Orascom
Telecom, Assaad contributed to the launch of
several GSM operations for Orange (France Telecom),
Vodafone (Airtouch) and TIW, in Poland, Romania
and Lebanon were he held several operational
and top management positions, including Technology
Development Director of MobiFon (Romania),
Enhanced Services Manager of MobiFon (Romania),
Roaming Manager of MobiFon (Romania), Marketing
Manager for SIM cards of Polkomtel (Poland).
Assaad has experience in the
telecommunications industry since 1992, where
he conducted research for Northern Telecom
(BNR Canada/INRS) on ATM networks, and extensive
practice in the GSM field since 1994.
Assaad holds a Master of Engineering
in Telecommunications as well as a Bachelor
of Engineering and a Minor in Management all
from McGill University, Montréal, Canada. Assaad
has received NSERC postgraduate award from
the Canadian Government as well as several
awards from McGill University (T.R. McLagan
Memorial Award, Erim Kumbaracibasi Award, Dean's
honor list, Faculty scholar, etc.). Assaad
has also taken executive courses in finance
at INSEAD.
Assaad is a dual Canadian and
Lebanese citizen, is trilingual in English,
French and Arabic.

Prior to SFR she was Marketing
Director for an experimental public DECT network
and Strategy and Marketing Director for a Cable
Television Company.
Lori received a Bachelor of
Arts from Wellesley College, USA. She went
on to get a Masters Degree in International
Economics from the Fletcher School of Law and
Diplomacy, USA and a Doctoral « Diplôme » in
Economics from the Institut de Hautes Etudes
Internationales in Switzerland, completing
her studies in 1990 with an MBA from INSEAD.

Lee Yeu Ching

Yeu Ching is currently the
Deputy Director of External Infrastructure
Engineering Department. His main responsibility
encompasses the strategic planning and implementation
of access network infrastructure to support
fixed and mobile services.
Yeu Ching has been working
in the telecom industry since 1991 with extensive
experience in the planning and operation of
both fixed & wireless networks. Prior to taking
up his current post, Yeu Ching was the Deputy
Director of Consumer Products-Mobile Unit,
SingTel where he was responsible for the development
new mobile products and services.
In 2005, Yeu Ching had made
a significant contribution in establishing
the new Bridge Mobile Alliance, which is Asia
Pacific's largest mobile alliance group. With
a membership comprising Asia's leading operators
and global technology powerhouses, the alliance
is able to offer a suite of exclusive benefits
and privileges to a combined base of over 94
million subscribers in the region. In his earlier
assignment in NCIC, Taiwan (2004), he completed
the network rollout to more than 2,000 commercial
buildings and over 800 mobile base station
sites. In 1996, he completed the provision
of paging and cellular radio coverage to all
underground train stations and tunnels in Singapore.

Myla C. Villanueva

Ms Villanueva supports the
Value-Added services groups in vetting of emerging
technologies for service delivery on fixed-mobile
infrastructures. Ms. Villanueva is also in
charge of various content acquisitions as the
CEO of Smart Communications internal content
and applications developer, Wolfpac Mobile.
Ms Villanueva's career in IT
spans 16 years, having been the founder of
the MDI Group, one of the largest local IT
groups in the country. MDI is involved in Systems
Integration, Distribution, Broadband Wireless
provision and Mobile applications development.
In 2004, Ms. Villanueva was
named Woman Entrepreneur of the Year in the
Entrepreneur of the Year program conducted
by Ernst and Young, Department of Trade and
Industry, Philippine Stock Exchange, Bankers
Association of the Philippines and the Philippine
Securities Exchange Commission.
In 1999, Ms Villanueva's founded
Wolfpac, a company that pioneered in mobile
applications development and Meridian, a pioneer
broadband wireless provider. Both companies
have since been acquired by Smart Communications.

Lucy Lombardi

Ms Lombardi works for Telecom
Italia in the position of Director of GSMA
Business Initiatives where her responsibilities
include developing business opportunities and,
in addition to coordinating and leading the
company's delegation to GSMA, representing
the company's strategies in the related international
environment.
She has been working in the
Communications/Telecommunications industry
for the past 14 years starting her career in
software development and satellite radiometry
(ESA). She landed in the mobile telecommunication
business in 1996 where she has taken up several
management roles including Technical Roaming
and Services Development.
She has been confirmed for
3 consecutive terms as Chair of GSMA/IREG (Interworking
and Roaming Experts Group) from 1999 to 2006.
In this position she led the team through the
challenges of defining the new technical requirements
for the introduction of packet switched technology
in a natively circuit switched business (2G
to 2.5G and then to 3G).
Lucy received a Masters Degree
in Physics from the University of Rome which
included a thesis on an original research project
studying infrared radiometry for advanced robotics.
A brief outline of Lucy Lombardi's
key achievements related to the industry :-
- In 1992 won a contest for a 1 year position
at the European Space Agency (60 openings
throughout Europe)
- In 2000 responsible for the technical aspects
of the Bid Book for 3G licence for Blu
- In 2000-2001 successfully lead the GPRS

Fred Harrison

Fred represents the Telefonica
Group and has responsibility for defining and
driving changes necessary to exploit the business
opportunities and to address the risks presented
by new and advanced technologies. The role
includes direction and management of all external
standards activities and technical policy across
the O2 group of operator companies.
Fred has several years experience
in standards leadership, including taking an
active role in the formation of 3GPP and also
the Open Mobile Alliance, where he currently
chairs the OMA Board Interoperability Committee.
Prior to his current role, Fred has had responsibility
for managing the architecture, design and planning
of Cellnet's UK mobile network and he has many
years experience in leading operational projects,
including managing transition to new technology.
Fred has led a wide variety
of industry initiatives, including the definition
of the IP based IMS technology in the 3G.IP
Focus Group, prior to adoption by 3GPP. Through
his role as a Board member in the Open Mobile
Alliance he has also defined and led work to
establish the OMA interoperability programme.

David Gannon

David joined T-Mobile International
in 2002, he specialises in next generation
services and enablers, with service interoperability
being his main current focus. He is a co-founder
and board director of the OMTP.
Prior to T-Mobile, David spent
6 years at Motorola UK, he held several management
roles including Content Management, Sponsorship
Content Services and Mobile Commerce, where,
in 1998, he launched the first eCommerce capable
mobile phone. Prior to this David spent 6 years
at Vodafone UK, where he focused on ensuring
Mobile phones were of sufficient quality to
allow GSM to establish, prior to this he was
responsible for integrating the radio components
of 5 GSM networks worldwide.
David has been working in mobile
communications for over 20 years, he graduated
with a BSc in Electronics and Communications
in 1990, in 2000 he earned an MBA, and in 2004
David was elected to Fellow of the Institute
of Engineering and Technology, IET (Formerly
the IEE).

Gökhan Kayalibay

Mr. Kayalibay joined Turkcell

to the CEO. In this role, Mr. Kayalibay is

technical operational and business tracks in
his carreer. Starting with to his career with
the Navy, he later joined Ericsson. He has

took business development responsibilities
and worked in several markets and countries.
Mr Kayalibay has taken active
rolls in multiple network roll-outs in several
countries. He participated and lead many tender
and bidding processes. He also helped development
and evaluation of multiple business models.

Mattias Hertzman

Jagbir Singh

Jagbir Singh is currently Group Chief Technical Officer-Mobility Networks in Bharti Airtel Ltd since November 2001. He is responsible for strategic planning of Mobile Network, providing strategic direction, deciding the network architecture and network vision for robust and scalable mobile network of Bharti Airtel. He leads the complete Mobility network team, 3G strategy & planning team and Wimax deployment team and handles the planning, deployment, operations and maintenance of the largest GSM network in India with more than 70 + Million customers. At Bharti, he has driven the deployment of 30K Sites and 1.3 Mn Erlangs in 12 calendar month in 2007-08. In his role he is responsible for Managed Capacity & Managed Services contract finalization with Ericsson and Nokia, Contract governance, monitoring and adherence of the contract. Mr. Jagbir is spearheading the 2G & 3G networks in Bharti’s International ventures in Sri-Lanka, Seychelles and Channel Islands in UK. He is a member of the Mobility Management Board which governs the Mobility business in Bharti Airtel.
Mr. Jagbir has over 20 years of experience in the field of Telecom, having worked with Bharti’s Infotel group, Nortel (in Asia-Pac role), Lucent Technologies and in Defense Research & Development Organisation (DRDO), Govt of India. He started his professional carrier as Scientist-R&D at DRDO and moved on to Lucent technologies where he pioneered exceptional business growth in Lucent on all products – CDMA, Fixed line, Switches & GSM - while leading India team as Pre/Post Sales Technical & Pricing head. He moved on to Asia – pac role in Nortel responsible for Network solutions. Subsequently he joined Bharti in the Infotel group as CTO and was responsible for roll out strategies for new towns for fixed line, nationwide MPLS networks, international POP’s, conceptualization, assessing market potential, evaluation & deployment of DSL, nation wide DWDM, introduction of Wimax & IPTV.
Mr. Jagbir has got numerous recognitions such as World Client of the Year Award (International) from Leadership Management Inc (LMI) USA - 1999. Lucent President’s Award etc.
Mr. Jagbir holds M.PHIL/ M.TECH (Physics-Microwave) from Agra University in the year 1987.
